Charlie was the oldest child of Dwight and Florence Richards. He was married to Minnie, and was a conductor on the railroad, probably the St. Louis and San Francisco (Frisco). He was severely injured in a fall from a train while attempting to hook a mail sack as the train sped past a station. His head struck a telephone pole in the fall. He was never the same after that, and had to be put in the instution in Osowatomie, Kansas, where he died two years after the accident.
