Died of Consumption-Mr. John R. Spensley of Galena, well known to many persons in Iowa, died of consumption in Galena, last Saturday morning. He was 32 years of age, and leaves a wife and one child.

SPENSLEY, John R. of the City of Galena, aged 32 years, dated January 9, 1872, proved March 12, 1872.
To my wife Mattie E. SPENSLEY the interest of two life insurance policies invested at best possible rate. Also the pension I am now drawing from the United States Government. All my household furniture.
To my brother James SPENSLEY of the city of Mineral Point, Wisconsin, $2000 as I am now owing him that sum.

Served in Company D of the 45th Infantry Illinois Volunteers. Signed up Oct 5th 1864 at Dixon, Ill. Was 25, 5'8'', Brown hair, brown eyes, fair complexion. Mustered out May 23rd 1865 in New York City.
Was commissioned officer during war, later a lawyer in Galena.
