Gainesville Police Department Public Information Officer Belva McClinton said shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday, Dennis was driving a 2007 Mercury sedan on Highway 82, attempting to travel south onto Magnolia Street. He reportedly turned in front of a 2005 Freightliner 18-wheeler driven by Danny Hallock of Michigan.
The collision seriously injured Dennis and left Hallock unharmed. Dennis was transported to North Texas Medical Center and later airlifted to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, where he succumbed to the injuries.

Services for Robert Dexter Dennis, 93, of Gainesville, formerly of Saint Jo are set for 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Custer City Baptist Church in Callisburg with Dr. Ben Smith officiating.
Burial will follow in Mountain Park Cemetery in Saint Jo.
Arrangements are under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home of Saint Jo.
Mr. Dennis died July 17, 2011 at Gainesville.
He was born Sept. 20, 1917 in Bulcher.
Survivors include children, Linda Harmon of Gainesville and Dianne Hunter of Roanoke, six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren and brother, Junior Dennis.
Visitation is set for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. this evening, July 19 at McCoy Funeral Home in Muenster.
Memorials may be made to Custer City Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
