Joanne was married to Richard H. Lathrop Sr. on July 22 in the year 1946 and remained married for 45 years until his death.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Lathrop Sr., on April 18, 1991. She was also predeceased by two beloved sons, the first, Richard E. Lathrop on Aug. 26, 1993, and her youngest son, Daniel W. Lathrop, on Sept. 12, 2006.
Survivors include her best friend and companion of 12 years, Mike Leighton, of Hallowell; her daughters and their husbands, Charlene and Richard Pushard Sr. of Chelsea, and Lorelai and Steve Thompson of Sidney; and her son, and his wife, James and Nancy Lathrop, of Oakland.
She leaves behind 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Joanne worked at Statler Tissue in Augusta for 38 years and later went to work for Nicholson's Nursing Home in Winthrop for three years before fully retiring at age 62. Joanne was an active member of the Gardiner Nazarene Church. She loved her church and attended regularly, even driving herself until the age of 84. She loved to bowl and play cards with special friends, Bea Campbellton and her daughter, Betty.
A graveside committal service will be held at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta. (Kennebec Journal 7/19/2011)
