Mrs. Eliza E. Germain, one of the old time residents of Davenport, died at Mercy Hospital at 7 o'clock yesterday morning, after an illness of about a week. For several years she had made her residence at St. Mary's Home, but her illness became serious and she was removed to the hospital in the hopes that she would recover. Mrs. Germain was a native of Iowa, having been born in Dubuque. For the past 46 years she had made Davenport her home and was well known and admired by the old-time citizens of the city, who made her acquaintance. She leaves to survive her three sons, Phillip H, Harry E., of Davenport and Edward F. of Chicago. Two sisters also survive, they being Miss Jane Courtney of Dubuque and Mrs. Francis Nevins of South Dakota, and six brothers, Daniel, George and Robert Courtney of Dubuque, John of St. Louis, Edward of Franklin County, Iowa, and William of Waterloo.
The funeral will be held from the residence of her son, Phillip H. Germain, 2112 Rockingham Road, Monday morning. The interment will be made in Holy Family Cemetery.
GERMAIN FUNERAL
The funeral of Mrs. Eliza E. Germain was held this morning from the residence of her son, Philip H. Germain, 2112 Rockingham Road, with services at St. Alphonsus Church at 9 o'clock. Rev. John Prechtl officiated at requiem mass and absolution ceremony and delivered the funeral sermon. He also officiated at the house and at the grave in Holy Family Cemetery. There was a large attendance of neighbors and friends and many flowers were sent. The pall bearers were William Backus, Edward Leonard, Ernest J. Lorrain, Frank Mauget, John Foley and James McManus.
