Originally christened "Johan", John came to the United States on May 1, 1881. He married Severine on July 29, 1884 in Waco, Texas. He eventually made his way to Clifton, Texas (Bosque County) and went into business with his younger brother, Peder E. Schow. Another brother, Ottinus E. Schow, eventually joined them as well. In 1907, John and Severine left Texas and relocated to Chickasha, Oklahoma.
