Arlen graduated from Allen High School and attended some college.
Arlen worked for the Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Railroad as regional foreman in heavy equipment repairs, traveling to the numerous locations in his multi-state district.
Arlen made his home site in Alliance, Nebraska where he enjoyed his leisure time in carpentry and wood work.
He had recently purchased the farmstead where he grew to manhood. This time of reminiscing was shortened in his passing.
Survivors are: children: Kim Duryea, Todd and Chris Magnuson, Craig Magnuson and his special friend Rhonda Frenzl, and Brent Magnuson, and ten grandchildren, all of Lincoln, Nebraska. He is also survived by his step-children, Vic Hoffmann, and John Hoffmann of Alliance, Nebraska and Mary Beth Fergus of Seattle, Washington.
Arlen was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ruth, and his sister, Arlene Linafelter.
Interment was in the Alliance Cemetery, Alliance, NE.
