Oct 1899, Bessie Mae Spruill Henderson (FAG Mem 44919699) and Oscar Burris Spruill Sr (FAG Mem 33923446). George Edward Spruill, Jr., may have been sent to Bibb County, Alabama to work in the mines after being incarcerated for the death of Ben Fowler, the estranged husband of his daughter, Alma. Ben was shot and killed on Thurs., March 24, 1921 after coming to the home of George with a gun and trying to forcibly enter the home to see his estranged wife, Alma, from whom he had been separated for more than a year. The article "Fowler Killed by Father-in-Law", was in The Columbus Dispatch (Columbus, MS), Sunday, March 27, 1921 edition, page 3. I found on Ancestry.com, George SpruelI, a convict from Pickens County, AL, died from injuries suffered from a rock fall at Mine #2 in Belle Ellen, Alabama, a mining town in Bibb County; if this is the same George Spruill, he died less than a month after the death Ben Fowler. The historical sign for Belle Ellen, Alabama states Mine Number Two was operated by convict labor.
