Charles Allen "Chuck" Yaerger was born October 1, 1944 in Morrilton, Ark. He grew up in Atkins, Ark., the only son of Alva and Vyneda Lackey Yaerger. He departed this life on July 21, 2016.
He is survived by six children, nine grandchildren who loved their Papa dearly and his wife for 23 years.
He was a member of the Church of Christ for over 40 years and a gospel preacher since the age of 17. He served churches in Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, as well as the Republic of Thailand. He was a student of the Bible, having been trained at Sunset School of Preaching in Lubbock, Texas. For 10 years he was a chaplain at the Arkansas State Penitentiary.
A certified law enforcement officer and instructor for 18 years, he guided his community as Chief of Police for 15 of those years. He served his country in Vietnam and is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Chuck held a General class amateur radio license callsign K5LTW and will be greatly missed by the amateur radio community.
His passion in life was a love for his Lord, the Lord's church, and his family. He loved to preach and teach the word. For generations, his influence will permeate the hearts and lives of those he touched.
Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m., Friday July 29, 2016. Funeral will follow at 10 a.m. in the Powell Funeral Home, Searcy. Private family burial will be at Bells Chapel Cemetery in Atkins Arkansas.
