Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island.
Visitation is 10 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the church. Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the church.
Esther E. Brandsma was born March 7, 1917, in Muscatine, to William H. and Elizabeth M. Hopewell Brandsma. She married Elbert G. Bissell Jan. 5, 1940, in Rock Island. He died July 15, 1978.
She had worked at the former Fort Armstrong Hotel, Rock Island, for many years, retiring as assistant manager.
Following the death of her daughter, Victoria Bissell, in 1979, Mrs. Bissell donated a vehicle to the Rock Island Police Department. This fully equipped vehicle was used to respond to medical emergencies and was staffed by specially trained officers. She was a member of the Rock Island County Humane Society, Milan.
Survivors include a sister, Hazel Barnet, Rock Island; several nieces and nephews and special friends, Dale and Peggy Dusenberry, Rock Island, and their sons, Matthew, Patrick, Jarrod and Eric. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Victoria, her parents and a sister, Lillian Brandsma.
