In 1977, Jerry went to work for the City of Morganton and retired in 1998. He served the city as Chief Engineering Technician, Street Superintendent, and Registered Surveyor.
He served Moose Lodge 193 from 1976 until 1998, holding the positions of Secretary and Governor, earning his Fellowship Degree.
Jerry was a member of United Baptist Church.
Jerry lost his battle with cancer on August 12, 1998. He was survived by his loving wife Diane Reep Duckworth, four daughters, a son, and his sister Loretta Abernethy.
