Our old friend and esteemed fellow citizen, Joseph Cardwell, died Suddenly on Thursday 20th inst of consumption.

Joseph H Cardwell was born in Hamilton County, Indiana, october 29, 1844 and came to Republic County in 1871 settling on a farm north of Scandia. He was married on April 2, 1866 to Rachel Kephart in Clearfield county, Penn. Mr and Mrs Cardwell with their three children, Ida, James, and Pleasant came and homesteaded and on the homestead Ackless, George, Arthur and Joseph were born.
Mr Cardwell died in 1885. Mrs Cardwell married Charles Fredell in 1890 and one son Fred was born to this union. After Mr Fredell's death they moved to Republic. On Sept 3, 1919 she was married to Barto Vincent.
