Alfred BARRETT was born in 1808 in New Woodstock or Cazenovia, Orleans county, New York the son of David BARRETT and Deborah (Lucinda) FISHER. He married in Orleans county, New York about 1833 Corintha RICHMOND born in 1812 in Ridgeway, Orleans county, New York. Alfred and Corintha BARRETT had at least six children, the first two were sons, born in Orleans county, New York. In 1836 the family moved to Ashtabula county, Ohio and in February 1838 they moved to Highland township, Michigan settling in Section 7. The hamlet in Highland township where BARRETT's and COLE's lived had a ridge and a grove of hickory tree's, thus the name, Hickory Ridge. Hickory Ridge School was built about 1860 in Greek Revival style of cut fieldstone. When it burned down in Nov. 7, 1930, Alfred's great grandson, Earl BARRETT offered the use of a house. With the $2,000 insurance money a new $2285 school building opened Jan 1, 1931. Two of Alfred and Corintha's children died young: William H. died at age 3 and no record exists of daughter, Sarah after 1860 when she was 15 years old. Alfred BARRETT died in 1865 at age 57 and Corintha died in 1877 at age 65. Their children:
David S BARRETT married Sarah Mariah WOODWORTH and they had sons Fremont and Adrian. David died January 2, 1916 in Highland, Michigan at age 82.
Alfred Richmond BARRETT married Clarissa ADAMS and had sons William Henry and Clarence Hayes BARRETT. Alfred Richmond BARRETT died Jan. 1, 1904 at age 68.
Mrs Luther (Addie Edith BARRETT COLE) JAYNE died July 26, 1920 in Painesville, Ohio at age 77.
Walter S. BARRETT married Lucy A. DENFORD and had a daughter, Winifred. Walter died June 1924 and he and Lucy were buried in Woodland Cemetery, Jackson, Jackson county, Michigan. The family members buried in West Highland Cemetery, Highland, Oakland Co, MI are: Alfred, Corintha, David S., his wife Sarah and son Adrian, his wife, Ida and their son, Earl.
