Animal Trainer and Breeder. Weatherwax trained several of the Lassie movie dogs including Lassie I whose real name was Pal. Lassie appeared on the 1943 film, "Lassie Come Home" and the television series, "Lassie" (1954-1974). He also trained the dogs for the films, "Old Yeller" (1957), and "Hondo" (1954). After his death in 1985 his son Robert continued training the dogs. His brother, Frank Weatherwax, was also a noted animal trainer, helping Carl Spitz train Toto for the 1939 film, "The Wizard Of Oz." After his death he had his casket lined with the ashes of some of the late Lassies, so that he may be with them for all eternity.
