Julia A. Newman was born in Pennsylvania, Sept. 23, 1836, and died at the home of her son in Montezuma Jan. 10 1922 aged 85 years, 3 months and 18 days.

She was married to Nathaniel Smith Dunlap in 1858 (October 2, 1859, in Marion Co., IA) and to this union two sons were born, J. H. Dunlap of Oklahoma City, Okla., and D. I. Dunlap of this city. Then on Aug. 9, 1862, the husband and father enlisted in Co. I Iowa Volunteers. He was mortally wounded at Saline River, Arkansas, April 30, 1864, and died of wounds June 4, 1864, at Princeton, Arkansas

Nov. 2, 1865 she was married to Benjamin Phillips who preceded her in death five years ago. To this union there were born five children, two of whom died in infancy, and Anna Woods who died 11 years ago. She is survived by the following: Mrs. Nettie Julian of Columbus, Ohio, George Phillips of Hillsdale.

She was a member of the United Brethern chuch for more than 50 years. She was sick for several months, but bore her suffering patiently.
