Mrs. Helen Acree Dead

Word reached here Sunday, that Mrs. Helen Acree, sister of Mrs. Albert Henry, had passed away in Omaha Sunday morning. The body arrived here Tuesday and funeral services were conducted from the M.E. church in this city Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. burial taking place in Prairie Gem Cemetery where the husband and a son of the deceased had preceded her in death, several years ago.

It was at that time that the Acrees resided in the Prairie Gem neighborhood and were well known among the old time settlers. The deceased had been in failing health for some time. Mrs. Henry only returning from her bedside Wednesday of last week, where she had been called by the serious illness of the sister.

Helen Mackey was born near Centerville, Illinois, Oct. 30, 1852, to Cyrus & Hulda (Sayers) Mackey, died at the home of her daughters in Omaha, Nebr., March 11th., at the age of 71 years, 4 months and 11 days. She was married to Joseph Acree in 1868. To this union were born eight children, one dying in infancy. Her husband died Feb. 12,
1894 and one daughter, Christine, died April 2, 1919. Those surviving are: Mrs. Mattie Rickel, Republic, Kan., Mrs. Dora Hubbard, Omaha, Nebr., Mrs. Edith Cook, Hamilton, MO, Clare Acree, Elliott, Kan., Carl Acree, Bolckton, MO, and Clifford Acree who made his home with his mother, also two sisters, Mrs. Amelia Dawson, Kansas City, Kan., Mrs. Della Henry of Blue Hill, Nebr., and one brother, Chris Mackey of Havana, Cuba, also sixteen grandchildren.

She moved from Blue Hill Nebr., to Wathena, Kan., where she resided the past twenty years. She has been an active member of the Methodist church for years, always enjoying the activities of the aid society and other church work. Her life has been spent in doing for others. In attempting to describe the character of this remarkable little mother it would be difficult to say anything too beautiful. She was a mother to all.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist Episcopal church at Blue Hill, Nebr., on March 14, 1923, Rev. Henry F. Martens of Bladen, Nebr. officiating, after which interment was made in the Prairie Gem cemetery.
