Robert was born on October 2, 1917, in Ottumwa, the son of Calvin and Bertha Klepfer Bissell. He married Nancy Jones on November 12, 1955, in Muscatine. She preceded him in death on April 17, 2006.
He was a US Army veteran having served during World War II. He was a member of the Ss Mary and Mathias Parish attending St. Mathias Church.
He worked at Grain Processing Corporation as a transportation analyst for more than 17 years. He bowled for the Kent Feeds senior league for 50 years. He was also a member of the St. Mathias Choir.
Those left to honor his memory include a daughter, Sarah Weron of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; two grandsons, Lance T. Weron and Jeffrey B. Weron, both of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; and 17 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one sister, Mary Brecht; and three brothers, William C. Bissell, Fred Bissell, and his twin brother, James Edward Bissell.
