Joshua Roswell Moe was born on 14 February 1847 in Michigan, son of Nun Moe and Catherine Hagens. On 19 August 1850, Joshua lived with his parents and siblings Orpha, Lovina, Phebe, Cordelia, and Hiram in Addison, Oakland County, Michigan.

On 18 July 1860, Joshua lived with his parents and siblings Louisa, Carlila, Lydia, Hewey, and Matilda, along with a 2-year-old girl Lena Burton. Joshua had attended school in the last year.

Joshua enlisted as a Private in Company A of the 4th Michigan Cavalry at Dryden, Michigan on 28 January 1864. He joined his unit on 6 February 1864. He assisted in the capture of Jefferson Davis and was selected as one of the few men to escort the captured Confederate States President to Washington. He was discharged at Edgefield, Tennessee on August 15, 1865.

Joshua was married first on 6 June 1866 in Romeo, Macomb County, Michigan to Hannah Josephine Church. Hannah was born on 6 January 1850 in Almont township, Lapeer County, Michigan, daughter of George Church and Catherine (–?–).

He has not been located on the 1870 or 1880 censuses.

In 1890, Joshua lived in Elmwood, Tuscola County, Michigan. He reported that he had affection of lungs from his Civil War service. Josephine died on 9 November 1891 in Elmwood township, Tuscola County.

Joshua was married second on 11 August 1892 at Bad Axe, Huron County, Michigan to Mary Oliva (Benjamin) Winton. Justice Edwin Watkins conducted the ceremony, which was witnessed by F. P. Watrous and F. A. Watkins. Mary was born on 13 April 1845 in Ashtabula County, Ohio.

On 25 June 1900, the couple and their daughter Cora lived in Wells, Tuscola County. He was working as a farmer.

On 5 May 1910, Joshua and Mary lived on N. Borderline Road in Wells, Tuscola County. He worked as a farmer.

In January 1920, Joshua lived in Ellington township, Tuscola County, Michigan, boarding with Charles and Louisa Blakey. He has not been located on the 1930 census.

Joshua died on 19 November 1937.

Joshua buried Oakwood Cemetery. He was the last Civil War soldier buried in Grand Traverse County.

Joshua and Hannah (Church) Moe were the parents of seven children:

vii. CORA MOE was born on 29 January 1889 in Elmwood township, Tuscola County.
