H.K. 'Skeet' George age 77 editor and publisher of the Caney Chronicle newspaper since 1943 died early today in St John’s Medical Center in Tulsa George was also a former Caney Chamber of Commerce president He was editor and publisher of the Mound Valley Times-Joumal and served as mayor there before coming to Caney He was born on Nov 20 1902 in Erie a son of Frank and Elizabeth Kyle George The family moved soon to Altamont George also lived for a tune in Cof-feyville where he was a Linotype operator and wire news editor for the Journal After coming here he also published “Good News” He was a charter member and past president of the Caney Lions Club also a member deacon and trustee of the First Christian Church of Caney served on the board of education and was an officer of “Kopco Inc” a job printing business here He and Ethel Miller were married on April 23 1927 m Oswego She died last Feb 4 Among survivors are a son Kenneth George three daughters Mrs George (Joan) Paine Mrs Jake (June) Friesberg and Mrs Rudy (Kathy) Taylor all of Caney 10 grandchildren two great-grandchildren and a brother Victor L George of Altamont He was preceded in death by two brothers one sister and one grandchild Services for George are scheduled at 2 pm Thursday in the First Christian Church here Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery at Caney Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association The Graves Funeral Home of Caney is in charge of arrangements ( The Parsons Sun - Parsons, Kansas - 06 May 1980, Tue • Page 4)
