Ruth Smith grew up on her parents' farm on Diatter Run near Frametown. After attending public schools in Braxton County, WV, she attended a business college in Charleston, WV, then took an office job at a coal mine in Logan, WV. There, about 1949 she met and married Johnnie Smith, who managed the company store for the coal mine. Their two sons were born in Logan, WV in 1950 and 1955, and both married and have living descendants. After Johnnie Smith's retirement, Ruth and Johnnie moved to Frametown, WV, near Ruth's sister Rosalee Blake. Bio by Ronald Decker, her first cousin.
