Jack was a newspaper man and teacher. He graduated in 1910 from Howard College (now Samford University in Birmingham, Al) with a BA and MA, and won honors in scholarship and oratory. Jasper was Samford's 1st editor in chief of the Entre Nous, the first yearbook. He furthered his education at the University of Missouri, School of Journalism with another BA, this time in journalism.

From 1912-1913 he was employed in the news department of the "Montgomery Advertiser", one year as a reporter, covering the State Capitol and the second as city editor. He was state editor for the "Birmingham News" the two years following.

In January 1915 he accepted the chair of journalism at Howard College, being the first person to establish and permanently operate a full college department of journalism in Alabama. He was a Democrat and a Baptist.(taken from Who's Who in Al)
He died in Charlotte NC of right lower lobe pneumonia at age 78. (taken from his death certificate)
