Bill served his country honorably during WWII as a member of the United States Navy, later joining the United States Coast Guard, and retiring from the United States Civil Service Commission-NAS Jacksonville. He was also a long-time member of the B.P.O. Elks, Lodge #1901.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ann Rose McGuirk Hayes, sisters Mary Brunson, Alene Hickox, Viola Hayes and brother Babe Ruth Hayes.
He will be forever remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Left to cherish his memory are his brother Lawrence V. Hayes (Elaine), children Sylvia A. Fuller (Bill), Richard C. Hayes (Linda), Susan V. Cobb (Gary), Robert O. Hayes, Linda D. Green (Eddie), grandchildren Whitney F. Marston, Brooke Fuller, Will Fuller, Rick Hayes, Annie Hayes, Caitlin Cobb, Kevin Hayes, Brian Green, and special friend Nora Bectin.
Visitation will be held on Thursday July 28, 2011 from 12:00 noon to the time of service at 1:00pm. Arlington Park Funeral home 6920 Lone Star Road , Jacksonville, Florida. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
