Veteran of World War II and Korea
Graduated University of Vermont in 1938 and University of Vermont College of Medicine in 1941
Served his internship at Mary Hitchcock Hospital, Hanover, NH in 1941.
Served in New Guinea, the Phillipines and Japan during World War II
Married Justine Mintie in 1946
Served his clinical fellowship at the Hitchcock Clinic and was a teaching fellow in Medicine at Dartmouth Medical School from 1946 to 1948.
Practiced at the Green Mountain Clinic, Northfield, Vermont in 1948.
Moved to Northampton in 1949, where he was a staff physician, Chief, Medical Service and for the last 10 years of his career, the Chief of Staff at the VA Medical Center. He retired in 1984.
He served in Okinawa with the 8114th Army Unit during Korea.
Member of the Courtesy Staff at Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Hampshire District Medical Society, Massachusetts Medical Society and American Medical Association.
Member of the Edwards Church, Committee on Church and Ministry of the Hampshire Association and on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Conference, United Church of Christ.
Volunteered at Northampton Historical Society, Volunteers in Northampton Schools as a member of the Board of Directors and an elementary school math tutor, Northampton Council on Aging and Riverside Industries in Easthampton.
He was survived by his wife, Justine (Mintie) Caldwell, a son, two daughters, a brother, and two grandchildren.
