Impressive Services Sunday At Preston
"The funeral of the late Wellington Appleton of Preston, near Cloverdale, took place Sunday from the picturesque little Church of the Covenant, resting amid the hills In the beautiful garden spot in which the Preston Colony Is situated. The interior of the edifice was clustered with the choicest blossoms. The casket rested against a wall of flowers and despite the gloom of the occasion the scene was one which called forth general admiration and universal sympathy with the story of love and devotion the floral tokens told. A large delegation of Sir Knights of Santa Rosa Commandery. Knights Templar, headed by Eminent Commander Sir John Tyler Campbell, attended the funeral as an escort of honor. Members of Curtis Lodge, F. and A. M. of Cloverdale were also present as well as a large gathering of friends. The impressive ritual of the Masonic order was read by the Rev. Sir E. H. Sink of Stockton, Grand Prelate of the Grand Commandery, and those present agree that the service was never more effectively performed. The remains were laid to rest in the quietude of the little Preston burial ground, which Is In one of the loveliest spots In the county."
