Robert Lee Pyles, 72, of Tunnelton died Wednesday (Jan. 5, 2005) at his residence.

He was born Feb. 17, 1932, in Worthington, a son of Geraldine Atha Pyles Dowdy of Mannington and the late George L. Pyles.

He was a retired gunnery sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps with 20 years service. He had served in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He was a member and past commander of Cannon Hill VFW Post 3008 in Rowlesburg. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 165 in Rowlesburg, a 32nd-degree Mason and a member of Osiris Shrine. He was a deputy sheriff in the Wade Graham and James Liller administrations and was a school bus driver for Preston County Schools. He was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Farmington.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 42 years, Wanda Joyce Sanders Pyles; a son, Robert Lewis Pyles of Vienna; a daughter and spouse, Crystal Turner and James Ira Turner III of Tunnelton; a brother, Stanley Powell of Gypsy; and a granddaughter, Brooke Hannah of Tunnelton.

Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today at the Browning Funeral Home, Burke Chapel, Rowlesburg, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday with Pastor Roy Mick officiating. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the West Virginia National Cemetery in Pruntytown where military graveside rites and Masonic graveside rites will be conducted.
