Death came to Silas Artie Mountain at his home in Yuma on Friday, November 19. He was 65 years of age.

Funeral service was conducted from the Morris Mortuary by Rev. Donald W. Johnson. Mrs. William Hague and Mrs. Alvin Perlenfein sang, "Now The Day Is Over" and "Only a Shadow" accompanied by Mrs. Paul Morris. Interment was made in the Yuma cemetery.

The following life sketch was read at the service:

Silas Artie Mountain was born June 18, 1889, in Cumberland, Iowa, one of eight children born to Levi and Abigail Mountain.

He grew to manhood on his father's farm near Cumberland, continuing residence there after his marriage to Daphne D. Harrison, which took place April 15, 1914. To this union four children were born, all of whom survive their father.

The Mountain family moved to a ranch northwest of Yuma in February of 1921. That ranch is now operated by his son, Kenneth. Mr. Mountain retired from framing and moved to Yuma in 1945. After moving to town he spent much time in his own hobby shop producing numerous items which he gave to his family and friends, who now hold them as a legacy of his love and friendship.

Silas Artie Mountain passed away in his home in Yuma on November 19, 1954. He was a member of the Christian Church in Cumberland, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Daphne Mountain; his four children, Lorene of Denver, Merrill of Portland, Oregon, Kenneth and Lloyd of Yuma; four grandsons: Ronald of Cutler City, Oregon, Robert, Steven, and Terry of Yuma; tow brothers: A. H. Mountain of Cumberland, Iowa and Wray Moutain of Platner; and two sisters: Alice E. Brown and Leta Steffen of Cumberland.

Prior to his death Mr. Mountain selected from among his many friends, the pallbearers for this service. They were Willard Gorman, Francis Hamrick, Ed Duncan, Merritt Cope, Thomas A. Mitchell, and Clyde Hutchinson. (Thanks very much to John Stender for sharing this.)
