"William Perry Alexander died rather young, largely from the debiitating effects of his four years of service in the Fifth Tennessee Infantry, Confederate States Army. He was wounded at least once (Battle of Perryville) but apparently recovered from those wounds. He was one of only 30 survivors who served with the Fifth Tennessee from its inception in 1861 through April 1865, when he returned to the farm at Como and lived his remaining years. Three sons were born to him and Josephine Hogan Alexander, two of which, Ivan and Walter, left this area for Texas and never returned as I understand it. Walter died in Texas and I understand Ivan, your husband's grandfather apparently died in Arkansas. I remember Aunt Perry discussing an Aunt Lily and I believe Aunt Perry visited them in Little Rock."
taken from a Aug 19 1992 letter from Albert R Wade Sr of Paris, TN to Charlotte Alexander.
---------------------------------------------------------
Wm Perry Alexander and Mary Josephine Hogan were married at the brides home in Obion Cty, TN. Permission was given by the bride's father, and they were married by Rev Asa Cox, who was Wm Perry Alexander's uncle - his mothers brother.
An additional story says that when he returned from the War between the States, "Pat" carried his regiment's flag back with him and was forever bitter about the outcome because he/his family/neighbors lost so much.
