He travelled with his parents from England to America in 1848 and travelled overland from New York to California where they boarded a ship for Australia on November 8, 1852.
He died of scarlet fever and was buried in the same grave on the same day as his younger sister Constance. According to cemetery records he was buried in a public grave, so there is no marker. (This was a common practice when the family could not afford a private burial.)
