Daniel Bobis was the drummer for 'Cipher', a band of High School Juniors with politics not born out of a coherent ideology. Earliest recordings were vague anti-authoritarian statements and ruminations on metaphysical themes. Insights into Cipher's future political leanings were notably unrefined in their execution. Never explicitly a "straightedge band", all four original band members either identified with a drug free lifestyle, independent of straightedge culture and politics and to this day member Moe Cipher continues to lead a straightedge/drug free lifestyle. Though not explicitly a "vegan or vegetarian band", three of the four original band members were either vegan or vegetarian. The lead guitarist's last name is Fry. They were from Brooklyn but now one of them is dead in Indonesia.

Daniel was also known as a surfer who was believed killed in a surfing accident after his disappearance on 7/24/11 while surfing. His surfboard was found first before his body washed up a few days later on a beach. He was found dead by fishermen on Sumatra islands. He had been surfing 12 foot waves alone when he was first reported missing.

According to the cult classic surf film "Big Wednesday", the character known as 'The Bear" stated that "the mark of a true surfer is that you're always out there alone." The Bear himself had surfed 20' swells at Point Molokai alone as verified by the character known as olde 'Shopping Cart' played by Hank Worden who appeared in another movie with actor Ben Johnson who never appeared in any surfing movies but was mainly cast in Westerns.
Regardless other surfing movies like "California Dreaming" 1979 displays a different version of 'the surfer' when the main character, T.T. (Dennis Christopher), a young Midwesterner, leaves the Midwest for a dose of the surfin' life believing that the people he finds on the beaches of California are glamorous and knowledgeable but is disappointed after the locals ridicule him for being a nerd but in time he eventually figures out that they are no wiser than he and actually lead empty lives. They generally gave him a hard time for not fitting in and wanting to.
Unlike surfing greats like Gerry Lopez and Peter Townend surfing at Cobo at Point Conception and Sunset Beach in Hawaii will never be the same.

Danny was a strong swimmer as a former lifeguard and founder of the Long Beach Surfer Association. He was also a high school math teacher and a 3rd degree black belt. Though Danny was married he had no children. He had a Facebook page with 4,343 friends.

Ironically, Daniel, who claimed to be from Brooklyn was the third death in 2011 of guys who claim they are from Brooklyn when back in April 2011 two of the so-called world's most acclaimed war photographers, both based in Brooklyn, were killed in Libya (Chris Hondros, a senior correspondent for Getty images & buddy Tim Hetherington, who co-directed the Oscar-nominated Afghanistan documentary "Restrepo") when Col. Moammar Khadafy's forces bombed their location.
Tim Hetherington claimed to be from Brooklyn yet was from England. Chris Hondros who also claimed to be from Brooklyn was raised in North Carolina.
Like Daniel Bobis, Tim Heathergton had no children but it was believed that his girlfriend, Idil Ibrahim's parents came from Somalia.
In 1993 after the Battle of Mogadishu the bodies of American soldiers (MIA) were dragged through the streets of Somalia and mangled. All of the bodies were eventually recovered and returned in horrible condition, one with a severed head.

On 7/28/2011 LANCE WILSON surfing legend of the east coast 'Road K' aka The Lone Surfer of the Apocalypse stated:

"I am now constantly reminded of Danny Boy whenever and wherever I surf. Whether it's local at Montauk Point with the other surfer dude who went surfing with Patty from East Hampton or whether I'm surfing Mentawai Islands off the west coast of Northern Sumatra Indonesia or Tamarindo Costa Rica on my custom designed "Che" Guevara surfboard, I hear his music everywhere I surf."
