Born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, on Saturday, April 19, 1941, he was the son of Broadus Earl Abernathy (1915-1989) and Thelma Mary (Anders) Abernathy (1920-1990). He was the husband of Katherine Prewette Abernathy.
He was formerly employed by Butte Knit and at Simpkins Industries.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Angie Abernathy Dorn; a son, Wayne Abernathy; two sisters, Hilda Foster, Linda Pruitt; a brother, Robert Earle Abernathy. He is also survived by four grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services were held at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Inman, South Carolina on Sunday, February 20, 2005.
In lieu of flowers, memorials were made to Inman Mills Baptist Church Family Life Center Fund, Inman, South Carolina.
