Virginia Benson was born on July 20, 1924 in Hamilton, Montana. She grew up and attended school there. After graduating from Hamilton High School she attended the University of Montana at Missoula, and received her Bachelor's Degree in Social Work there in 1945. She worked as a social worker on the Flathead Indian Reservation in Montana before coming to Fargo in 1948. She then worked for Catholic Welfare in the Fargo diocese. Lois Virginia Benson and James Verlin Boulger were married at St. Mary's Cathedral in Fargo. Virginia helped manage Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo from 1948 until retiring with her husband, Jim, in 1978.

Virginia was active in the literature section of Fine Arts, various bridge groups, the women's auxiliary of the Fargo Nursing Home, the parish council of St. Mary's Cathedral, and took special joy in her Sunday morning breakfast group at the Holiday Inn.

She is survived by husband James V. Boulger, Fargo; children John V. Boulger, Fargo; Larry (Jenice) Boulger, Fargo; Nancy (Manny) Montoya, Albuquerque, N.M.; Marsha (Jim) Watland, Detroit Lakes, Mn.;
