James Venoy Hawkins was the second son born to Samuel Alexander Hawkins 1854 – 1939 and Malaha Ann Cline 1856 – 1926. His four sibling were: William N. Hawkins 1881-1949; he married Martha Adeline Berry; Henry H. Hawkins 1889 – 1969, he married Flora Short; Lizzie Lee Hawkins 1894 – 1908, she never married; and Dewey Patrick Hawkins 1898 – 1960, he married Betty J. Long.

In a ceremony on Aug. 11, 1907, Venoy claimed Ada Pearl Walker as his bride. Over the next 19 years Pearl presented him with the following six children: Bertha "Birdie" May Hawkins 1909 – 1996, she married Francis Edward Smith; Callie Lee Hawkins 1912 – 1979, she married Melvin Crittenden; Homer Kyle Hawkins 1914 – 1990. he married Mary Alice Moore; Warren Calvin Hawkins 1917 – 1975, he married Joan Laster; Henry Clay Hawkins 1919 – 1940, he never married; and James Reed Hawkins 1922 – 2012, he married Betty Wheeler.

From the 1910 census, Venoy had been married 3 years and had one baby girl. He and Pearl lived on rented property and he was a general farmer.

On Sept 12, 1918, Venoy registered for the WWI draft. His mailing address was Rt. 2, Bulls Gap, Tennessee. He stated that he was self employed as a farmer.

The 1930 census revealed that Venoy was charged $12.00 a month to live in a rented home. He declared that they had a radio in their home. To support his family he was working for wages as a Section Laborer for the Railroad

James Venoy Hawkins' Death certificate confirmed that he was born on April 10, 1882 and died on May 23, 1949 in rural Persia, Hawkins Co., Tennessee. His demise was caused from Congestive Heart Failure that he had been suffering for 3 years. His body was taken to the Homer Stewart Funeral Home to be prepared for burial. His dear wife, Pearl, children, and friends gathered at the Phillips Cemetery in Mosheim, Greene County, Tennessee to bid their beloved husband, father, and friend farewell.
