Born to George R and Josephine (Avery) Gray on November 23, 1897. Dorothy Graduated from Chapman Technical High School, class of 1915. She was then a member of the first graduating class of Connecticut College, 1919. While at college she was president of the Art Guild. Following college she worked at C. R. Hall art importer in Boston and had worked as an art instructor for the Hartford school system. In 1922 she opened an art shop within the footprint of the family business at 89-91 Broad Street. Dorothy married Raymond Manion in 1925.
