A tribute to John Claude Muhr with his picture is in this issure.
He was killed at Caloocan. Wounded in the trenches the afternoon of March 23 about 4:30 and died in the hospital at 5:48 the next morning
His suffering was intense and he remained conscious to the last. About all the request he made was to Arthur VanSlyke, his comrad and nurse, was to write home and tell them all about me.
John was the first of the Westphalia boys to be killed in the Phillippines.
He was born in Indiana and had he lived until Saturday of this week, he would have been 22 years old.
At an early age his parents came to Kansas and for a number of years he lived in and around Westphalia.
The first call for volunteers John enlisted in Co E. and went to LeRoy for that purpose on 2nd of Last May. Since then he has been with the Co E 20th Regiment. A brother and two sisters survive him.
