Loving father, husband, son, and friend, returned to his Heavenly Father on Monday, July 25, 2011.

The son of the late Wallace and Lorna Higley, he was born and raised in Grantsville, Utah. David loved to help other people and fix things around the house. He would often spend his Saturdays building shelves or fixing cars.

He loved to cook for other people, especially using his barbeque and dutch ovens. He spent his vacation days taking his boys to scout camp and helping his mom remodel her house.

David was a lifelong, active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He loved serving the Lord and the other members of the church. He particularly loved working with the missionaries. He had served a mission in the Texas East Mission and was excited to be living back in the mission field.

David worked as a civil servant for thirty years and had just retired in July and was looking forward to moving back to Utah to be with family and friends. David loved camping with his family and playing games.

He is survived by his wife, Cathryn Hoggan Higley; six children, Lane Higley and his wife, Melinda; Jennifer Higley; Michael Higley and his wife, Erin; Elizabeth Higley; Christopher Higley and his wife, Shawndra; and Benjamin Higley; seven grandchildren, Aubrey, Jamie, James, Travis, Celestial, and Broderick.

David's family was a source of great joy in his life. David was the oldest of six children and had many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Chapelwood Funeral Home on Thursday, July 28, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The services will be held on Monday, August 1, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Tate Mortuary in Tooele, Utah. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m.
Burial will be in the Grantsville City Cemetery under the direction of Tate Mortuary.
