CSA, Company B, 10th Kentucky Cavalry. Captured 9 May 1864 at Cloyd's Mountain, Virginia (Pulaski County) during The Battle of Cloyd's Mountain which was a Union victory in western Virginia. Battle allowed the Union forces to destroy the last line connecting Tennessee to Virginia. Battle strength of troops: CSA 2,400 men vs Union 6,100 men. Thomas was received at Camp Chase Confederate Prison in Columbus, Ohio on 26 May 1864. He died of Variola on 28 January 1865.
