NEWTON. . .James William Adcock, a resident of The Terrace at Grove Park, Dothan, formerly of Newton, died late Saturday night, July 30, 2011, in a Dothan hospital. He was 90. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, August 1, 2011, in the Newton City Cemetery with Reverend Joseph A. Moore officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends following the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Newton United Methodist Church, 209 East King Street, Newton, AL. 36352. Mr. Adcock was born and reared in Dale County, near Newton, son of the late Barnett B. Adcock and Ida Shanks Adcock. He served his country in the U. S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific as an aircraft mechanic, later working in research and development on the F-86 fighter jet with North American Aviation in Los Angeles, CA and Columbus, OH. Mr. Adcock spent the majority of his career with the U. S. Army Aviation Test Board at Fort Rucker, AL as chief project officer for the Ch-47 Chinook helicopter project. Mr. Adcock was a member of the Newton United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-three years, Betty Bedsole Adcock and son-in-law, Dave Johnson Poundstone, Jr. Surviving relatives include a daughter, Terri Adcock Poundstone, Montgomery; two sons, Phillip Adcock (Donna), Tuscaloosa; James Scott Adcock (DeeDee), Tallassee; grandchildren, Phillip Adcock, Jr., Geneva; Amy Mosteller (Robert), Juneau, AK; Patrick Adcock, Atlanta; great-grandchildren, Gavin and Avery Mosteller; special niece, June McLain, Panama City; a special nephew, James H. Stevens, Dothan; sisters-in-law from the Bedsole family, JoAnne King (Bill), Newton; Martha McEntyre, Dothan; Jacqueline Grantham, Ozark. The family would like to express a special thank you to members and friends of Newton United Methodist Church and staff and management of The Terrace At Grove Park.
