Eleanora Amanda Jones, 87, of Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Friday, March 24, 2006, at Westwood Nursing and Rehab following a seven-year battle with Alzheimer's.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Martha Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Eleanora Amanda was born July 31, 1918, in Parkston, S.D., the daughter of Otto and Amanda (Heil) Fischer. She attended Central High School in Sioux City.

She married Alva R. Jones on Oct. 29, 1936, in Sioux City. He passed away on Sept. 9, 1981, in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Eleanora resided in Sioux City from 1935 to 1974. She then moved to Arnolds Park, Iowa, until 1981, when she returned to Sioux City. In 1998, she moved to Des Moines.

She was of the Methodist faith. Eleanora was a loving mother, grandma and great-grandma, who was devoted to her family. She will be greatly missed by her family. Eleanora enjoyed cooking and fishing. A special friend, Donna Kobes, would pick up Eleanora to play bingo, which she greatly enjoyed.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Denis and Amelia "Punk" Jones of Sioux City; two daughters and their husbands, Joye and Dean Thompson of Sioux City, and Trula and Gerald "Russ" Blackford of Des Moines; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Lester (Clarice), Harry and Harvey Fischer; five sisters, Esther Miller, Lorraine (Walter) Peterson, Diana (Alvin) Lyons, Violet (Dayton) Mikell and Alberta Kirk; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alva R. Jones; a son, Alva "Buddy" V. Jones Jr.; and two brothers, Walter and Herman Fischer.

Pallbearers will be Danny Jones, Jason Blackford, Shawn Kobes, Shane Kobes, Jaymes Savage and Beau Savage.
