Chesley (Ches) Cox, a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away in his home on December 9, 2005 following a valiant battle with lung cancer. Born in Lebanon, Indiana on January 29th, 1937, he was the son of Clarence and Gayle Cox. Ches spent his formative years in Aurora, Colorado. He joined the United States Navy in 1955 and proudly served his country for over 22 years, which included the Vietnam War. He retired from the Navy in 1977 with the rate of AKCS. During his time spent in the service, he especially enjoyed all the countries he visited and years spent as a member of the Maintenance Management Team, Commander Naval Air Force and Pacific Fleet. His last 11 years in the Navy were spent at NAS North Island. He then began his 16-year career with the Federal Civil Service as a GS-4 in 1978, where he worked his way up to Director, Administration Planning GM-13 within the Supply Department at North Island and retired at the age of 57. 1" Ches was known for his marvelous sense of humor, boisterous laugh, his ability to organize and love of the performing arts. He was a perfectionist and known for his book of lists, an avid collector, maintained a keen interest in genealogy and, with Joyce, traveled the world visiting all of the continents except Antarctica. He was an honest, trusting, caring person and very much a loving family man. He especially enjoyed spending time with his six granddaughters and was looking forward to the birth of his first great grandchild. He is survived by Joyce, his beloved wife of 33 years; daughters, Gayla (John) Williams, Connie (Rodd) Whitley and Cynthia Henson; sons, Chuck Henson and Bruce Henson; six granddaughters, Venessa Whitley, Macey Morsberger, Katie Henson, Heather Henson, Audrey Williams and Natalie Williams; brothers, Charles Cox and Ronnie Cox, and his sister Virginia Moreno. Ches was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Melvin Cox. Memorial services will he held Thursday, December 15th at the Little Chapel of the Roses (Glen Abbey) with visitation at 12:00 Noon and service at 2:00 p.m. immediately followed by entombment at Glen Abbey Memorial Park where he will be held until Miramar National Cemetery is completed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Chesley Cox to San Diego Hospice. Ches will be extraordinarily missed and his spirit will remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege to have known him.
