Louis Cabral was born in 1919 in Morenci, Arizona. He was the 2nd eldest of 5 brother and 3 sisters. During his childhood, the family moved to Jerome Arizona and there Lou's father slapped some wood panels on the frame of a Dodge truck and drove the family across the desert all the way to California. They moved to Sunshine Acres, also known as Whittier.

As a child Lou loved to build model airplanes, climb the oil derricks and set those planes loose to marvel at their flight.

After graduating high school, he asked his father for permission to join the Army Air Corps. He was even instrumental in talking a friend out of running to Mexico and they enlisted together.

Lou served throughout the European theatre beginning in February of 1941. He flew in a Martin Marauder B26 as an Airplane Engineer Gunner until January 14th 1946 when he was honorably discharged.

For his distinguished service Lou was awarded the American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, and the World War II Victory Medal. Even after discharge, Lou stayed in Europe and gave his flight points home to his friends who had family. As always, putting others before himself.

Upon return, Lou met the love of his life, Lois Phipps and made her his wife. Together they moved to the San Fernando Valley and set up their life together.

Soon they were blessed with the first of their 4 children, Diane, followed by Deborah, Randy and then Susan. They bought a new house in Reseda where the kids grew up and Lou set up shop in the garage - fixing all the neighbors kid's bikes, motorcycles, then dune buggies and telescoping truck bumpers - all the while while working his day jobs at studios, the laundermat he owned; joined the space race working for Marcourt- where he started a gun club and did high speed camera testing and explosions in zero gravity.

He worked on both the Gemini and the Apollo. Later, Lou worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital in Sepulveda, assisting in day to day workings of the hospital and helped wounded veterans. Lou even opened his home to many veterans and shared Thanksgiving with them and his family.

Upon retirement, Lou and Lois moved to Prescott Valley, Arizona. Being one of only 3 or 4 homes in the entire Valley at that time. They were blessed with their grandchildren Tanya, Joe, Juanita, Alicia, Frank, Ashlee, and Yvonne who always joked that Lou started a whole new city.

Lou spent his retirement years four-wheel driving, hunting, fishing, enjoying time with his children and grandchildren. He went out in the back-country and picked out his own flagstone and rock - hauled them home and built his patio and pond. He just wouldn't buy rock when he could get it for free, with just a little sweat.

Lou always had the most beautiful yard and gardens in the neighborhood. Having a nice yard was his pride and joy and he just loved his flowers and garden and to this day still has the most beautiful yard in the neighborhood. He loved nother more then showing off his flowers, then sitting down and telling stories about his life.

Lou Cabral lived almost 92 years, surrounded by the ones he loved and all those who loved him. He will be dearly missed by all.
