According to family records, David Blanchard was born on June 19, 1822 in Charlotte, Washington County, Maine to David Blanchard Sr. and Saviah Bennett. He married Mary Louisa Babcock on May 22, 1845.

In 1850, David and Mary L.B. Blanchard were living in Charlotte. Children in the home were William (4), Sarah (4), and Henry (1.)

In the 1860 census, David Blanchard and his wife Mary Blanchard were living in Charlotte, Washington County, Maine. Their children included: William (14), Gilbert (10), Bennett (8), Elizabeth (12), Benjamin (6), Loring (4), Charles (2) and Blanchard (3 months).

On September 13, 1863, William Blanchard died in Warrenton, Virginia, while serving with Company F of the 6th Maine Infantry Regiment. His body rests in Arlington Cemetery, Section 13, Site 7793.

In 1870, the family is still living in Charlotte. In the home are: Sarah E. Blanchard (22), Henry Blanchard (21), James (18), Benjamin (17), Loring (15), Charles S. (13), Mary S. (10), Effie (7), Stedman (5), Alva (4).
