FORT RIPLEY George D. Schilling, 77-year-old resident of Fort Ripley, Minn., passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2006, at his home in Fort Ripley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie, Minn., with Father Mark Innocenti officiating. Burial will be at the Holy Parish Cemetery in Belle Prairie. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 20, at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Parish prayers will be held at 6:30 p.m. followed by Knights of Columbus prayers at 7 p.m. Monday evening at the Shelley Funeral Chapel.
George D. Shilling was born on April 13, 1928, in Little Falls, Minn., to the late Joseph and Mary (Beveridge) Schilling. He grew up on the family farm near Fort Ripley, Minn. George was united in marriage to Patricia Jeanne St. Pierre on June 7, 1951, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples, Minn. He purchased his own farm near Fort Ripley where the couple currently resided. He enjoyed farming, collecting agates, making Yule logs, playing cards and black jack, cooking on the grill, visiting with friends at the casino, deer hunting, watching deer, raising beef cattle, making sausage and spending time with his family. George was always there to lend a helping hand to whoever needed it. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Schilling, of Fort Ripley, Minn.; children, Pamela and Dean Hodge, of Little Falls, Minn., Jeffrey and Leah Schilling, of Fort Ripley, Minn., and Dean and Rachel Schilling, of Fort Ripley, Minn., and daughter-in-law, Diane Schilling, of Brainerd, Minn.; sister, Marjorie Craig, of Auburn, Calif.; many nieces and nephews; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Schilling; brothers, Howard and Byron Schilling; son, Steven Craig Schilling; and grandchild, Anthony Schilling. Honorary pallbearers will be The Deer Hunting Crew. Active pallbearers will be Kara Schilling, Jessica Schilling, William Threlkeld, Kyle Schilling, Jacob Schilling, Jordan Schilling, Butch Schilling and Kelly Plante.
Arrangements are with the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls.
