Jim's obituary read: "James Lawrence Epperson, 81, of Covington, went to be with his Lord at 10:20 P.M. Monday (September 10, 2001) at the Department of Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System. He was born December 19, 1919, in Sidney, Illinois, to William R. and Lillian F. (Ross) Epperson. He married Helen M. Spencer June 30, 1941. She survives. He resided with Helen in rural Covington, north of Foster. They had six children: James L. Epperson II (deceased); Nancy Jo (Charles) Holycross of James Island, SC; Frances (Donald) Cumbow of Covington; Vernon Skip (Lola) Epperson of Cayuga; Becky (Kevin) Jones of Covington; and Terry (Lesa) Epperson of Covington. They had 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Loretta Rice of Danville, Illinois, also survives.

Jim worked on the C&EI Wabash Railroad and Glen T. Smith's Auto Sales. He went to work at Bud Electronics in 1952 and worked as an outside salesman until he retired in December of 1981. He served in the Army Engineers from 1942 to 1945. He was an honorary lifetime board member of the First Assembly of God Church in Danville. Jim loved his family and being with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed reading the Bible and singing in the choir. He also loved his church, pastor and friends. As a consummate handyman, his interests included outside work and gardening. His Christian outlook and approach to life was an inspiration to all.

Funeral services: 2 P.M. Friday, September 14 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Danville; Officiating: Dr. Robert Bartosh; Visitation: 4-8 P.M. Thursday, September 13 at the funeral home; Burial: Sunset Memorial Park in Danville with military rites performed by American Legion Post 210; Memorials may be made to the First Assembly of God Church in Danville."
