Frank Smitke
Funeral services were conducted at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Thorp on Monday, September 19, for Frank Smitke, 85, who passed away at Memorial Hospital, Neillsville of a heart ailment. Rev. Brockman officiated at the ten a.m. service and burial was made in the parish cemetery.
Pallbearers were 6 grandsons: Bruce Bryan, Eugene Bryan, Arlyn Bryan, Kenneth Dodmead, Frank Matousek, and Larry Matousek.
Mr. Smitke, a retired farmer, was born September 15, 1881 at Abbottsford, Wis. He was united in marriage to Anna Haas at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Thorp on August 4, 1908. Having lived all his life around Thorp the past 50 years, he resided on a farm 1 mile North of Thorp.
Surviving are: his wife Anna; one son, Frederick Smitke of Medford; three daughters, Mrs. John (Cecelia) Bryan, Mrs. Elmer (Regina) Dodmead and Mrs. Frank (Lucilia) Matousek of Neillsville; two sisters, Miss Catherine Smitke and Mrs. Harry (Grace) Perkins both of Duluth, Minn.; 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
