His parents were Minnie and Burnet Hamilton. He was the oldest of three children, two sisters Pam and Annette.

Fleming recieved his education from the Detroit Public School system graduating from Northwestern High School in 1967 where he was active in R.O.T.C.
He was drafted in the United States Army in 1968, he fought for his country in the Vietnam War.
He was employed at General Motors for over thirty years and retired as a phosphate operator.

They called him Dicky Boy.
