Dr. Farnsworth's first bride was Margaret Farnsworth. He then married Miss Gertrude Naomi Romig, who died in February, 1960. Dr. Farnsworth had a long marriage and two children with her, one of whom died at age 2 1/2.

Six months later he married Gertrude's sister, Alice Charlotte Romig Schultze on 27 August, 1960. The very mature couple had no children, although Alice had two grown children, John Frederick Schultze and Margaret Cecilia Schultze from a former marriage, and Harrison Farnsworth had one living son from his marriage to Gertrude.

Dr. Harrison E. Farnsworth was a scientist, Professor at Brown University, Providence, RI. His son, Edward Allan Farnsworth by Gertrude became a Professor at Columbia University Law School.
