Wharton Journal-Spectator, August 3, 2011:

Alice Emma Schumaker, 98, of Taiton, passed away on July 29, 2011. She was born on Sept. 11, 1912 in East Bernard to the late Frank J. and Otilda Litzler Brod. She was a rancher and homemaker and a member of the Christ Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Nora Lee Schumaker, and Jeanette and Edwin Richter, both of El Campo, Delores and Andrew Kaspar of Victoria; daughter-in-law, Madeline Schumaker of Wharton; nine grandchildren, Monty Ray Castle, David Castle, Michael Kaspar, Margie Whitney, Sandra Moore, Donna Knight, Nancy Liner, Rhonda Houston and Karen Riddle; 17 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandchild; and brother, Irvin Brod of Alvin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larden P. "Buck" Schumaker in 1969; son, Gene Larden Schumaker; sisters, Isabel Bremser, Alverda Schweinle, and Evelyn Webb; and brothers, Elmer Brod, Raymond Brod, and Marcus Brod.

Visitation began on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the family receiving visitors from 4 to 6 p.m. at Triska Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, at Christ Lutheran Church with Rev. Jake Fain officiating. Burial followed at the Oaklawn Memorial Park. Serving as her pallbearers were David Castle, Monty Castle, Michael Kaspar, Shawn Lester, Troy Liner, and Ray Riddle. Honorary bearers were all her grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church or the charity of personal choice.

Triska Funeral Home was in charge of the final arrangements.
