Edward was an apprentice blacksmith in Burlington about 1900. He worked in a blacksmith shop in Virgil after Burlington. Worked in a blacksmith shop in Lodi (Maple Park) after Virgil. Worked in a blacksmith shop in Gilberts after Lodi, where he met Helen Emma Lester and married her August 23, 1915. Worked in a blacksmith in Elgin after Gilberts. Bought the blacksmith shop at 21 North State Street in Elgin about 1916. Employees of Edward Seyller - Horse Shoeing and General Blacksmithing included Alfred "Fritz" Seyller (Edward's brother) and Hans Sjurseth, who later founded "Hans and Sons Plumbing" in Elgin. Moved to Rochelle, Illinois and bought a blacksmith shop in the summer of 1926. Moved to Pingree Grove and opened a blacksmith shop in a building owned by Edwin Franzen in the summer of 1928. Moved to Plato Center in 1929 and opened a blacksmith shop on Russell Road in the building owned by Ernest Homuth, where he first started building truck bodies for cattle and grain hauling. In 1938 he bought the old Ira J Mix Dairy Company building on Rippberger Road, just south of the Illinois Central Railroad, where he opened Ed Seyller and Sons - Truck Bodies and Blacksmith Shop.

Edward and Helen had four children: Jerome Lester, Edna Margaret, Glenn Thomas and Vera Claire. The 1920 Census show them living at 114 N. Jackson Street, Elgin, IL.

Edward C. Seyller, 76, of Plato Center died early today in St. Joseph Hospital an hour after admittance.

He retired 10 years ago as senior partner of Ed Seyller and Sons, truck body builders.

He was born in Burlington, Jan. 16, 1890, a son of John B. and Frances Clark Seyller. He resided in Plato Center 37 years.

Surviving are the widow, Helen Lester Seyller; two daughters, Mrs. Lyle (Edna) Haines of Plato Center and Mrs. Vera Russell of Elgin; two sons, Jerome L. and Glenn T., both of Plato Center; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Elizabeth) Sester, Sr. of Genoa and Mrs. Herman (Lillian) Lasemann of DeKalb; and two brothers, Henry of Genoa and Harry of Elgin.

Services will be at 3 Wednesday in the Stout Funeral Home, the Rev. Paul Dude, pastor of the Plato Center Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Plato Center Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Tuesday.
