Loretta Captolia Prater McPhail, 78, of Duncan, Oklahoma went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, July 16, 2000, at her home.

She was born September 20, 1921 in Middleberg, Oklahoma to Luther and Minnie Anderson Prater. She attended Comanche High School.

During World War II, she worked at Bridgeport Brass Munitions in Connecticut. While waitressing at Cecil's Restaurant, she met Elbert Gates McPhail, II. They married May 19, 1945. Loretta and Gates were members of the First Baptist Church and Chisholm Trail Square Dancers. They were activity directors for 14 years at Fun Valley Resort, South Fork, Colorado and for 2 years in Mesa, Arizona. (There are at least three plaques with Gates and Loretta's names on them in the Fun Valley square dance hall in South Fork.) They motorcycled, camped, danced and made many friends in Colorado from 1962-1998.

She enjoyed gardening, canning, beautiful dishes, and furniture refinishing. She was widely known for her hot and spicy cooking. And most importantly, no matter where she was, she told people about here love for Jesus and His love for them.
