U.S. Senator. He graduated from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute in 1906, from the law department of the University of Chicago in 1909, was admitted to the bar in 1909 and commenced to practice law in Boise, Idaho. He was a deputy collector of Internal Revenue in 1916, Boise City Attorney, (1916-17), Assistant Attorney General of Idaho (1918-19), member of the board of education of Boise (1924-29) and Mayor of Boise, (1929-33). In 1933, he was elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate, serving until 1939. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he was appointed a director of the Tennessee Valley Authority by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, serving (1939-51). He was also practiced law and was member of board of directors, at the Federal Savings and Loan Association, Knoxville, Tennessee. He died in retirement at age 81.
